Day three - What's the phone number?

Day three has come and gone, and yes, I am still alive.

Have you ever done something stupid? I have - I won't get into most of that here, but I will tell you that getting used to some things here is a little difficult, and sometimes I feel like a dumbass. What I'm referring to is a voicemail I left this afternoon. Not only did I not know my office phone number - I actually drew a complete blank on my own cell phone number while leaving the voice mail. How could I possibly forget my own cell number, which I have had since I was a junior in high school - seriously!

Well, it turns out it wasn't entirely my fault that I didn't know my phone number at the desk, because I was given the wrong number. It seems they have cleared that little issue up though, so hopefully people will be able to call me now - let's just hope I can remember my own damn cell phone number - how embarrassing...

As I drove home from the office tonight I spent some time reminiscing about the good old days in the Colonnade office and what is similar and different at the Morning News.

While the Morning News newsroom has a laid-back feel to it, it is really very different from the 'Nade office - I know hard to believe, right? But the key difference I've noticed is that everyone spends more time on task.

It seems that the "professionals" are much more interested in getting in, getting their stuff done and getting out. For me, I don't know how to describe it, it's a little odd. There seems to be a certain lack of camaraderie, but hey I suppose that's why they call it the real world.

One of my favorite things about this newsroom, though, is similar to the Colonnade office. It is set up wide-open so that everyone can talk to each other. Writers and editors are within "hollerin'" distance, so that makes life easy.

On another note, I'm beginning to figure out how this office works. First of all, as I mentioned earlier they are not Mac - I have had to readjust to Windows, which sucks, my computer is awfully slow and I hate that it's, well, not a Mac. But that's really my only complaint. So, that's not too bad.

Anyway, I spent most of the day in the office today. I got to work at about 10:15 and made some phone calls to sources for my article that I am working on. I left at 1 and headed to the police station once again to do police check. Wrote two more briefs - I think they were better this time. One was really quite interesting - it seems that some burglars busted through a concrete wall to steal a safe at a convenience store!

I spent the rest of the day working on my article. I am still not going to reveal to you what the subject is, but I will tell you that it is a news feature. And, it is nearly complete!

I don't have much to add right now. I am extremely tired for some reason so I apologize if this post reads rather slowly.

Until next time,
This is Corey, signing off.
